Halima Nyaki's Profile

Halima is one of the founder members of the Coastal Queens Soccer Club. She is married and has two daughters, Lucy and Lizzy. She too has benefited from funds mobilized by Paige. She is learning to be a beautician. She has now done three months on the trade, which she is expected to master in six months at a cost of 3,000 Kenya shillings a month. She is a quick learner and it would be good to settle her well after her internship.

Halima has completed the first four months of her hairdressing course. She is training in a salon, as it's cheaper than in a college. Halima really enjoys the salon that she is learning in as she has more one on one time with her teacher, and there are only two other girls that are training with her.

In the past two months Halima has learned how to relax hair, apply chemicals, facials, manicures, pedicures, as well as blow-drying hair. She is looking forward to learning about beauty, which is the next section to be done in her course.

Halima attends college Tuesday to Sunday from 9 am to 5 pm, but often stays later to help out and practice the skills she has learned, as the salon gets very busy. She works the extra hours for experience but sometimes her instructor will pay her a small amount.

Once Halima has finished the course she would initially like to be employed by a salon to gain more experience and skills as well as to see how a salon is managed. She would like to then gain enough experience and knowledge to open her own salon. She really wants to finish her course with her ultimate goal to be the perfect hairdresser.
