How Does EWB Operate?

International Operations:

EWB provides comprehensive empowerment opportunities to youth in developing countries. We are committed to the long-term advancement of developing countries through our investment into the lives of the youth. It is the belief of our organization that such services as education are a right, not a privilege that has been denied to too many youth around the world. The failure to empower the current generation en masse through education will retard development in developing nations.

Thus, EWB is stepping in to assuage some of the problems of developing countries by providing less fortunate youth with the resources needed to promote social change. We accomplish through our educational, vocational training, and athletic, community empowerment programs.

Education
EWB supports communities' educational systems by constructing and repairing primary and secondary schools in developing areas, which lack facilities conducive to learning. We equip impoverished schools with the resources needed to provide comprehensive education and donate the compulsory school supplies and uniforms youth need to attend school. We also provide teacher training to those overcrowded schools with high student to teacher ratios and minimal resources.

Vocational Training
EWB provides vocational training to those women who have not been able to complete their primary or secondary educations. Our vocational education programs provide single mothers the opportunity to learn a trade and support their families. Our sponsored students learn hairstyling and tailoring.

Sports Programs
EWB promotes community development and education through the construction of sports facilities and creation of youth sports leagues. We equip our programs with the necessary sports kits to ensure that all youth have their own uniforms, practice gear, and training equipment. Our sports programs pay special attention to the needs of at-risk girls and street boys. The coaches work to bring the youth together in an environment conducive to community development. We also finance cross-national trips that bring our teams in contact with their peers in communities spread throughout their countries.

Community Empowerment
EWB works to ensure that all youth develop a sense of belonging to their communities. All participants in our programs are expected to contribute back to their communities through their dedication to community cleanups. Our youth engage in community clean up days and encourage their families to work together to ensure that EWB sports and educational facilities remain clean and conducive to their development.

Domestic Operations:

EWB believes that lasting change will not occur until countries partner with each other in a spirit of mutual assistance. We envision a future of justice and opportunity for both the most prosperous and the most vulnerable people in our world. We believe that everyone has the power to affect change, wherever they live.

EWB High School Program
The EWB High School Program engages high school-aged youth in the pursuit of EWB'S mission. Under the leadership of committed and passionate young social entrepreneurs, EWB High School chapters find creative ways to advocate and fundraise for EWB'S cause. EWB'S Awareness Campaign
EWB's Awareness Campaign was created to bind Americans together in a common effort toward a collective vision . . .

• A vision of a world at peace, without the terrible illiteracy and poverty crisis that we see today.
• A vision of a world in which no one is trapped in extreme poverty and no one dies from treatable illness because they do not have access to medicine that is freely available elsewhere.
• A vision of a world in which education, peace, and economic security are available to everyone, regardless of who they are or where they come from.

EWB recognizes that much of this change must start at home in our personal choices, our local communities and our nation's policies. We firmly believe that change is possible, but we know that public awareness must be increased and political will must be strengthened.

The EWB Awareness Campaign empowers Americans to make these dreams a reality.
